Muddy, muddy fun in the forest!

We had our 3rd visit to Peatlands Park today & had hoped for some snow but instead we got loads & loads of mud!
The children were wearing the 2nd set of our waterproofs & they were severely tested in the deep, squelchy mud & large puddles. From an adults point of view this set may not have proved just as waterproof as the other one, but the children didn't care or complain & just enjoyed jumping & rolling around in the mud. Some made pies, soup & ice-cream with leaves, water & sand. Others had fun rolling down Teletubie Hill & playing in the 3 Bears House.
It was very cold but the fleecy mittens proved a great hit - even if they are hard to get on, it's worth it for the children to have warm hands.
We had a new bus driver today, one who has never taken any of our classes to the forest in the past 5 years & he was not impressed by the state of us when we got back on the bus!! But we bring newspapers with us for the children to sit on, so he really had no need to be so grumpy! The majority had to be changed when we got back to school & many had to have their faces scrubbed! But all agreed it was a great morning & can't wait to go back next month for some fun with our friends from another nursery.

    1. We have a little snow now, so hopefully we can enjoy it tomorrow - maybe we will even use it to 'wash' the wet gear!! Kierna

    1. Hmmm - the bus driver didn't think so! In fact we have been billed for valeting the bus!! I find this very strange as we have been using the same company for 5 years with no problems until we got this driver!

  5. Wow I just love all the mud and puddles and the way you allow all those children to explore and enjoy the forest so beautifully togged up with all the right gear to ensure it is fun without being cold and wet. Thank you for sharing "how to do muddy weather" on Country Kids!

    1. Cheers Fiona, though we are in a bit of a dispute with the bus company as for the 1st time in 5 years a complaint was lodged about how dirty the kids were!! But it won't stop us from having more muddy fun this month too! Kierna
