In February we have the topic of 'People Who Help Us' & we are very fortunate to have a paramedic as the Chair of our PTA (known as Family & Friends in our school). Both he & his wife are paramedics & in the past 5 years since their first child attended the nursery they have brought the ambulance in in February to allow the nursery class a chance to look around inside.
It was a busy, busy Friday morning, our 'Outdoor Day' as we had our fire & cooked some marshmallows before the ambulance arrived.
Then everyone got an opportunity to go & visit the ambulance & turn on the lights & sound the siren - the favourite bit I think!
Scott explained to them all why the ambulance would be putting the siren on & how they should tell their parents to pull the car over if they hear the sirens & see an ambulance behind them on the road. He also talked about how you ring '999' for an ambulance & how you need to know the number of your house & the name of the road or street - only 3 children knew their addresses - so perhaps this will be their 'homework' for this month.
Some of the children enjoyed climbing up on the bench to look over the fence at the ambulance.
Everyone was so well behaved & then after Scott left, Mrs Ross arrived to do some singing with the children, they really did pack a lot into this busy morning.
A big thanks to Scott for bringing the ambulance into the school.

This post is quite interesting because children gets many information through this about the number to call an ambulance and about tell their parents to pull the car over if they hear the siren of the ambulance.
ReplyDeleteYes, they will listen & remember it all when they hear it this way.
